Ablative Fast Pyrolysis
The first technological objective is to develop and validate the Ablative Fast Pyrolysis (AFP) technology, which unlike the other fast pyrolysis technologies has the potential to be “mobilized”, i.e. operated on-the-field or at least at the field margin. Consequently, the AFP technology affords bio-oil at a significantly lower price than the other technologies due to the elimination of raw biomass transportation costs.
In addition to the development of the “mobile AFP unit”, the cost effectiveness of the technology will be further enhanced by innovating the AFP technology by means of fractionated condensation and/or in-line catalysis, also improving the properties of the resulting bio-oil and hence facilitating its subsequent upgrading.
The AFP validation in an industrial relevant environment will be conducted by RISE ETC.
